About the department

Costume: Dye Workshop

The Production Costume Department makes costumes and accessories for new productions of opera and ballet, which are designed by independent costume designers. We offer work experience placements to students wishing to pursue a career in costume construction gaining experience in our Women`s and Men`s Workrooms, Hats and Jewellery Department, Dye Workshop and Stock Room. The placement is based on the applicant`s particular area of interest and expertise in their chosen field. You can apply for placements in as many of the departments as possible, but as noted in the FAQ section, you can only undertake one placement at the Royal Opera House, so please consider this before accepting your placement.

Placement description

During the placement in the Dye Workshop, you will work-shadow members of the team and have the opportunity to apply and improve upon your existing knowledge and practical skills within this area.

Minimum entry requirements

- Aged 18+

Selection criteria

- Currently undertaking relevant costume construction training (the second or third year of a degree-level course, or with equivalent level of training/experience).

- Demonstrable evidence of good making skills.
