Technical Production - Props Workshop

The Props department is responsible for the manufacture and repair of all stage props for all opera and ballet productions at the Royal Opera House. ROH prop makers use artistic flair, creativity and initiative to realise a finished product from designers` ideas, concepts and drawings, and are highly skilled in a wide range of crafts including metalwork, sculpting, mould-making, fibre-glassing and furniture construction.


You will be involved as part of the team in assisting the work of the Props workshop. Tasks could range from creating small intricate hand-held props to large-scale articulated structures. Specific projects will be set during the placement which will be appropriate to the individual`s previous experience and competency. Activities are normally carried out in the Props workshop but it may be necessary to work elsewhere within the Royal Opera House, or at designated outside venues.

Minimum entry requirements

- Aged 18+

- In the final year of a relevant industry/craft related course, or with equivalent level of training/experience

- Demonstrable workshop and machinery health and safety training

- Physically capable of undertaking the requirements of the placement

Selection criteria

- A proven knowledge of the materials, tools and techniques that are used in a busy workshop

- A good communicative team player
